Our next cycling adventure

We’re excited about the next Jessie’s Fund sponsored bike ride: from 22nd to 27th August we’ll be taking on a brand new challenge: cycling through Normandy, with its beautiful scenery and rich history. We’ll ride along the Seine valley, visit the ancient town of Rouen (of Joan of Arc fame), pass through picturesque cider- and cheese-making country, visit Bayeux (arguably home of the most famous tapestry in the world) and, of course, ride by some of the moving D-Day landing beaches. 18 cyclists and the support team will take the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre on the evening of Thursday 22nd August and return on the overnight ferry from Caen-Ouistreham on 26th, arriving back in Portsmouth early on 27th August, giving us four days of riding to cover something like 220 miles (mostly on small, quiet roads).

Of course, as well as having a great time, the aim is to raise vital sponsorship for Jessie’s Fund, but we don’t stipulate a minimum amount as other charities do – we just ask you to raise as much as you can, and we support you in doing so. Our target for the combined total raised by the 18 cyclists is £15,000, and we appreciate that some people will be in a position to raise a lot more sponsorship than others. However much you raise, you’ll know that it will all will help children to be able to communicate through music, even if they can’t do it with words.

We’ll have our two ride guides, and a support vehicle to carry our luggage and meet us at points during the day with food and encouragement. We’re limited to a maximum of just 18 places, so if you’re keen to come, reserve your place now. The estimated cost per person is £360, which includes accommodation in 4 berth cabins on both ferries, one night in a youth hostel (Rouen), and the other two nights in modest hotels. We’re really excited about this ride – it’s going to be brilliant. You can let us know if you’re interested in joining us by emailing us, or you can reserve your place now by filling in the registration form below. We’ll contact you to confirm that we’ve received your reservation, and we’ll be asking you to pay a deposit of £75.

Thanks to Morrisons’ Community Champion, James Gunston, and the local store manager, for allowing the cycle team to park cars in their car park for the duration of the ride.  James says ‘Morrisons Victory Park store in Portsmouth is pleased to be able to assist this charity fundraising adventure.’
