This year our training courses have been rather different in format, but still full of fantastic ideas and techniques for making music with children who have complex needs. Initially we scheduled two courses, but due to popular demand we added a third. All were delivered online, led by our expert team of tutors: Mark Withers, Cathy Ibberson and Vicky Kammin. And as this has been such a tough time for everyone, our courses this time were completely free for the participants!
Each course was in two parts, separated by about 10 days, allowing time for every participant to benefit from three informal tutorials between the sessions. We were delighted that the courses proved so helpful.
I loved how positive everyone was – and how each tutor was keen to respond to the individual needs of tutees – I can confidently say that this course provided the most student centred teaching I’ve ever had.
I felt empowered by the trainers to be able to use music to communicate where words perhaps would not suffice. This alone blew my mind. Additionally mix that with all of the tools and experience that were shared I feel totally inspired to develop communication skills and to speak to others about how to use music to provide an enriching experience for pupils of all abilities.
Thank you for everything you do – I thoroughly enjoyed the course and it has given me a fresh motivation and enthusiasm for music. It will 100% make a difference to how I use music in my role at the hospice. At the moment the music therapist cannot access the care floor so for us to be able to provide some music instead will be a great benefit for the children in our care.
Even after scheduling the third course we had a waiting list, so we are planning to run another in the near future. Watch this space!
