We had a wonderful two days to finish our September, with our London Making Music with Special Children course at LSO St Luke’s.
16 very engaged participants from across education, health and care settings joined our experienced tutors Mark Withers and Vicky Kammin for two days of hands-on, practical music-making. We are grateful to everyone who attended for sharing their skills, knowledge and practice as well as being so enthusiastic in joining in our activities, such as exploring accessible iPad apps and using their voices in different ways. It was brilliant to see how their confidence grew over the two days, and how they were able to take the lead in developing a piece and improvising during the final ‘play’ of the day.
We always appreciate the feedback we receive after our courses, as it helps us to shape what we deliver in future. One participant shared about their experience: “Everything was a surprise, but how the facilitators guided you through each process was comforting which gave me confidence to try and not worry if I made a mistake, and to have fun with it.”
Another told us that: “I enjoyed how inclusive the course was. I feel that it really explored how music can be used to remove barriers to music not just for SEN pupils but also adults and others who might otherwise consider themselves ‘non musical’. I found that throughout both days I enjoyed challenging my sense of what it is to be a musician and that it showed me how to ensure I don’t overthink approaching music with others. The enormous joy at finding like-minded people to bond with and the shared music making with everyone left me feeling refreshed and ready to go back to work which is demanding but rewarding.”
The final few places are available for our York course on the 9th and 10th November 2026. Find out more and book here.
